About CMS Health Initiatives
CMS Health Initiatives (CMS) is one of Washington, D.C.'s premier 501(c) 3 organizations. Formerly known as the Center for Minority Studies, Inc., CMS meets the health awareness and educational needs of the community. Founded in Miami-Dade County, Florida, CMS is the brainchild of Dr. Evans Branch, III, who holds a Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Florida, School of Pharmacy.
In January 2002, CMS expanded to Washington, D.C. to promote healthcare literacy to underserved members of the area's underrepresented population. This extension of CMS is composed of well-trained, licensed consultant pharmacists of various backgrounds.
In order to eliminate health disparities and barriers and promote health literacy and health awareness, CMS reaches out to the "hard to reach population" by working with the community through schools, churches, other community-based organizations, and local businesses.
As a result of its commitment and dedication to educating the community, CMS has successfully executed various grant programs.
Since its inception, CMS has made exceptional strides in Washington D.C. This progress is made possible by the partnerships and relationships that exist between the CMS and various organizations in the metropolitan area.
